Frequently Answered Questions
Motivated by our love for the island of Sri Lanka and a desire to give back to the country, we established Ceylonamon as a means for people in the UK and beyond to enjoy the finest spices from organic farms both big and small. That wouldn’t generally be easily accessible, to experience the true taste of Sri Lanka whilst inadvertently giving something in return. We are currently in the process of forming partnerships with select charities and foundations to ensure that a portion from each sale contributes to helping those in need in Sri Lanka, We deeply value our relationship with local organic farmers, who in some cases use their own gardens! Through hard work and love for their land meticulously cultivate these precious treasures. With our commitment to ethical sourcing, we guarantee that every packet reflects the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
Each spice carries with it a story of tradition and elegance, inviting you to savour the flavours of Sri Lanka's wonderful heritage.
-
Are your products fair trade? Our Organic agriculture and final product is managed according to fair-trade principals. “Where is your fair-trade logo on your packaging or website I hear you ask?” Well good question! We are an extremely small family run company, on our side the funds are not available to be fair trade certified just yet! However it shan’t be long!
-
Are all your products Organic?Yes! Fully sustainable, ethically sourced and 100% Organic, not only that some of the farms and gardens use biodynamic farming methods.
-
Which allergens are your organic Alba cinnamon quills and powder free from? Both are free from all known allergens. Celery, milk, lupin, soya beans, gluten (including wheat, rye, barley and oats), eggs, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, cacao, mustard, nuts, nut oil, peanuts, sesame seeds, BHA/BHT, additives and sulphur dioxide.
-
What does your best before date mean? Our spice are extremely fresh and flavourful and at there best for 2 years after milling, whole spice for around 3 years. However they are fine to use after this date and will no doubt be better than your average supermarket long after.
-
How do you grind whole spices? There are lots of options, electric spice grinder, food processor/blender or coffee grinder, we like to use a heavy pestle & mortar.
-
What’s special about your Alba cinnamon from Sri Lanka?Sweet and delicate! Produced by taking the finest inner bark of the “Cinnamomum zeylanicum” tree or Cinnamomum verum. Creating Alba cinnamon quills is a time consuming art! Select farmers craft these precious treasures lovingly by hand and in less quantities over other grades of Ceylon cinnamon. Continental, Mexican and Hamburg. Costs and quality vary tremendously between these types and for good reason, Alba cinnamon elevates all who it comes into contact with, including us! Remember, if it only says “true cinnamon” it’s not Alba!
-
How do you keep your prices so competitive? We are an extremely small family owned company who love cinnamon, we provide a path for you to experience the true taste of Sri Lanka in the UK and beyond. Simply put, we put the leg work in, visit regularly and source our Alba cinnamon directly in Sri Lanka at the source. We try to buy as much as we can afford and we hope, once sold this is enough to cover our costs, restock and give back. We also don’t have fancy packaging, our passion is in its contents. Leaving you with the finest ethically sourced and Organic 100% pure Ceylon cinnamon or as we call it “ceylonamon” every time. No exceptions.
-
Do you plan on releasing other products in the future? Our motivation to create Ceylonamon was built on a foundation of transparency, to invite everyone to enjoy some of Sri Lanka’s finest, most prised treasures in exchange for inadvertently giving back to the people of such a great island. People who have been through it all and still wield the biggest smiles. We have a lot to consider for new spices. The quality of the product, how it’s grown, sustainability, the price we pay always needs to be fair for everyone and many other variables. If we can tick each box and have proceeds left over to give back we will stock it. If there’s no room to give back then we won’t buy it in the first place. What this means is, if you see us selling something rest assured a portion of the proceeds are going back into Sri Lanka to a wonderful cause :) (Our next visit is in October 2024, we will update our partnerships page on return to keep everyone up to date. We are currently talking to an amazing foundation and due to meet them when we touch down in Sri Lanka.)

Help! We can’t smell much, should we break the quills before adding them to our creations? That’s the spice of life and totally up to you! As with all of Sri lanka’s true cinnamon, they will need to be broken to release their full taste and aroma. Add our whole quills to cooking to give your dishes a certain elegance and a subtle refinement. To experience the full force of our Alba cinnamon quills break them. They can also be crushed, ground, flaked or even stepped on if you must!

Where can I buy your products? We currently sell on Amazon, other options are on the way :)
